Thoughts on Leadership

Goals and the "Press Factor"

What is in the heart of a leader who has goals and successfully reaches them?

One of the important aspects of achieving goals is the hunger, drive and determination to reach that goal.

This quality I call the "Press Factor".

Read this passage and find out more about the "Press Factor".

Philippians 3:12-16

Not that I have already obtained this or am already perfect, but I press on to make it my own, because Christ Jesus has made me his own. Brothers, I do not consider that I have made it my own. But one thing I do: forgetting what lies behind and straining forward to what lies ahead, I press on toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus.15 Let those of us who are mature think this way, and if in anything you think otherwise, God will reveal that also to you. Only let us hold true to what we have attained.

What do you observe about Paul's "Press Factor"?

Paul is highly motivated to obtain the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus.  He honestly acknowledges that he has not attained maturity yet but he strains forward to what lies ahead.

Press on, straining forward, press on, hold true.

This is the "Press Factor".

What is a goal you are straining forward for?

As you think about your goals, what is your "Press Factor" from one to ten?

The stronger your desire is the more effective the goal accomplishment will be.  It will not only be effective for you, but it will benefit other people in your life!  You are the type leader who is fun to be around because you are clear on your goal but you also acknowledge you may need help getting there.

What is your "Press Factor" for goals you have for this next season of your life and leadership?
